Melt

At some point you have to pay the piper.

Such was the case this week when MK and I stole away for a little trouting on one of our local spring creeks.  Temps made there way into the 50's and the snow responded as it will in these cases...by going back to its liquid form.

It might be fine if that's all it did.  But it doesn't.  Instead, it picks up dirt and debris, sticks and leaves (along with a host of other items) and it carries them.  In this case it carried them down and down until it handed them off to the water we planned on fishing.  It foiled these plans.  (MK later reported that this stream, which normally runs at 45 cfs, was running 68 in the morning and jumped to 270 by afternoon.)

We ended up taking a walk along a stretch of stream that used to be downstream from a dam.  The dam was removed, the river was re-channeled and the under brush was cleared away.  It looked a little like a city park.  I don't like fishing in city parks, but I don't like dams even more.  So I strolled and admired the river's new course and drank a beer and enjoyed the warmth and talked with my friend and decided that this day had turned out pretty good.

Spring, happening.

Dam, not happening.

MK, keeping the faith.
