Off season grind

Over the New Years Holiday, my brother in law showed me the finer points of making knives from old Nicholson files.
(Heat file, cool, shape blade, file blade, heat blade, quench blade....did I get the order right?).
I used birch for the handle and then added old braided flyline for an insert wrap. The brass cap on the blade end was once an old fly rod tube cap .
I've got 6 coats of tung oil on the handle as of this photo. (I'll probably add a few more).
